Christmas Treats

by Savannah Hoye

Atlantic High School sophomore Cassandra Hallman of  found an inexpensive way to “treat” her friends this Christmas season.

Students have always pondered the question of how much money to spend on Christmas gifts. Most high school students don’t have extra cash lying around to spend on other people. Hallman only spent about $50 total on all her friends’ Christmas presents.

Hallman baked all of her friends a various assortment of cookies and gave the cookies to them on Dec. 20. According to Cassandra Hallman, they were given out in white boxes and decorated by putting a small amount of colored tissue paper on the boxes.

Sophomores Matt Iekel and Shelby Cooper were two people who received her gifts. Iekel said, “I was overjoyed! I was like, ‘Oh Food!’ I just love Christmas now!”

Hallman gave different gifts to her friends according to her relationship with them. In band, she gave her French-Horn section approximately fifteen “Almond Horns.” Whereas, with her other friends, she gave them fun-shaped and frosted cookies and bars.

Baking not only saves money but for some it adds sentimental value. Cooper said, “The gifts I received were very much appreciated, due to all the time and effort (Cassandra) put into them… The lemon poppy seed bars were my favorite.”

Both Iekel and Cooper said, “They were delicious!”
