Feb. 4 was national signing day, and two AHS athletes signed with Iowa Central Community College to further their football career. Seniors Skyler Svoboda and Tyler Thomas were recruited by Iowa Central’s coach Brabender throughout the 2014 football season. Svoboda was recruited for the offensive line and Thomas as a linebacker.

Atlantic head football coach Eric Waldstein said, “I’m very proud of both of these guys. The opportunity to play college football doesn’t come for everyone. It takes talent, but probably more than anything, it takes a great work ethic and heart. Skyler and Tyler have all three characteristics.”

Waldstein played for the current Iowa Central head coach at Buena Vista University. “It makes me feel really old to begin with!  I think it is great, though. Coach Twait has made a lasting impact on me personally and in my coaching career. I hope Tyler and Skyler have the same type of experience playing for Coach Twait,” said Waldstein.

Svoboda and Thomas will begin spring training in the next few months. Svoboda said he is anxious to be continuing his football career and he is looking forward to playing again.

Thomas said he is excited to play again and “compete with people at the next level in the sport I love.”

Iowa Central head coach Kevin Twait said both Svoboda and Thomas meet the criteria to be an Iowa Central Triton athlete. “I am confident that both ‘Trojans’ will do well here at Iowa Central,” said Twait. According to Twait, Waldstein highly recommended both boys. Twait said, “We watched their highlight films from their senior season games and decided that they would be a great fit for our program here at Iowa Central.”
