Jazz Band Season Arrives

Jazz Band Season Arrives

by Corgan Petersen

With the end of fall activities and the fast approach of winter, jazz band season is here. Atlantic High School’s jazz I started rehearsing on Oct. 30, and the first rehearsal was to go over music for this year’s season of competition and performances.

Jazz I is the upper jazz band that competes in competitions. This year, the jazz band will perform at Bluffs Jazz Festival, State Jazz Band Contest, Triton Jazz Festival, and the SWIBA District Jazz Band Festival.

In past years, there has also been a jazz II that didn’t participate in any competitions, but performed at the AHS Swing Inn concert, but the lack of numbers doesn’t allow a jazz II this year.

Jazz I’s songs for this year will include the swing piece “Blue for the Cap,” a ballad written and performed by Duke Ellington Sunset and the Mockingbird, and an undecided latin piece.
