Dance Atlantic Performs at Chiefs Game Halftime

by Kelbe Flathers

On Sunday, Oct. 26, 40 dancers from Dance Atlantic performed at the Kansas City Chiefs game, along with the Chiefs Cheerleaders, at halftime. This is the studio’s second year in a row performing at halftime.

Dance Atlantic instructor, Ricci Springs, received an email asking if her studio was interested in the performance. The cost for a dancer was around $250, which included everything needed to perform and seats for the game, but did not include a hotel, gas, food, and family seating.

With the age range of six to seventeen, 10 of the girls were from AHS: juniors Lileigh Brown, Emily McDermott, and Aubry Schwarte, sophomores Marah Bengel, Kerra Christensen, and Tori Krogh, and freshmen Hayley Gibson, Shelby Pelzer, Emily Schreiner, and Maddy Williams.

Since Sept. 13, the girls had been preparing a five minute routine every weekend for around two hours. One practice, three of the Chiefs Cheerleaders attended practice to help the dancers come up with a chant to yell at other studios for when they would practice at the Chiefs practice field on Oct. 25. The cheerleaders also helped by practicing the dance routine to help enhance the performance. Bengel said if the studio is asked again to return next year, she will definitely do it again.
