McTeacher Night Hosted at McDonalds

Do you want fries with that? This phrase was often said by principal Heather McKay, vice principal/athletic director Matt Alexander, and chorus teacher Jennifer Gaesser last Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the local Atlantic McDonald’s on McTeacher night.

“McTeacher night is when teachers work at McDonald’s and they take orders and greet people,” said Gaesser. McKay, Alexander, and Gaesser worked from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The school received 20 percent of the profit made during that timeframe.

The goal of the fundraiser was to get enough money to purchase a set of hand held microphones. Gaesser said they do not have the totals of how much they made yet, but the information is estimated to be known in two weeks.

This is the second year for McTeacher to take place. Sophomore Kylee Champlin said, “Last year, one of the first customers offered Ms. Gaesser a $20 tip in exchange for an opera song performance.”

Junior Hannah Greene said it was a “convenient technique of raising money for the music arts of AHS.” Champlin said, “I think it was a smart idea, because high school students tend to go to McDonald’s quite a bit, especially if their teachers will be working behind the counter. It was great that McKay got involved with the fundraiser as well this year.”

Gaesser said “everyone would benefit from the new equipment in the auditorium.” Greene and Champlin are just two of the AHS students that will benefit from it.
