Flannels are a trend in every season of the year. From the frigid winds of winter to the harsh summer sun, people all over the world sport them in some way. Here in our own community, quite a few AHS students have been seen wearing flannels. Not only in general, though.

It all started around last fall when a few of last year’s seniors wore flannels to school and posted “#FlannelFriday” on Twitter. Even though those seniors are off to college, a few of the underclassmen have taken this tradition into their own hands.

According to sophomore Emily Hohenberger, Flannel Friday is a “creative way for students in the high school to come together with a dress day.” Hohenberger also spoke about how you could make it even more fun by exploring Salvation Army for flannels.

This trend isn’t only happening in our school, but all over the nation. If you check Twitter or Instagram with #FlannelFriday, you will find people from Los Angeles, California all the way to Lexington, Massachusetts participating.

If you check the well known site Urban Dictionary, the definition states that Flannel Friday is a “national holiday” that happens every single Friday. The definition also says that having a day where you’re already assigned what to wear makes choosing what to wear ten times easier.

Flannel Friday is not only an interesting event to participate in every week, but is also a fun way to get together with friends and see all the new flannels everyone is wearing.
