On Tues., Apr. 8, the boys soccer team traveled to Lewis Central and defeated the Titans 5-2. The Trojans had high hopes going into their game and they met/exceeded all of their goals when they not only won the game, but broke the losing streak against Lewis Central.
The Trojans took an early lead when senior Michael Thomsen scored, just six minutes into the game. A little later, Matt Smith increased their lead to two with a goal into the bottom left corner. The score stayed at 2-0 into the end of the first half. Not long into the second half the Trojans were awarded a penalty kick and Thomsen put it in the back of the net. Late in the second half the Trojans added two more goals, after giving up two to the Titans. Matt Smith scored his second goal of the night, followed with a late goal by David Thomsen.
The Trojans defense stepped up and had a solid game, only allowing two goals. The back four, with help from senior midfielder Morgan Munsey, kept the Titan strikers out of the middle, which was exactly what Head Coach Justin Williams was stressing in the few practices before the game.
The Trojans had never beat the Titans before their dominant performance on Tuesday night. This is the reason for Williams saying, “We’re going headhunting.” Getting their first win of the season was exciting, but to bring it in with a dominant performance over a team that they had never beat before just added that much more excitement.
