TWIRP Week Approaches

TWIRP Week Approaches

By Tanner Mauk and Justice Parker

The AHS TWIRP week has been changed to March 10-14.

Originally planned for February 7, the dance was approaching quicker than everyone thought,  leaving some people nervous about finding a date, making plans for before, and finding clothes. But delaying the TWIRP week schedule to March 10-14 gives everyone more time to look at their options.

The dance is now scheduled for Friday, March 14 after a full week of  TWIRP starting on March 10.

The two main reasons that TWIRP week was moved were explained by Cooper Zablocki, member of the Atlantic Student Council, when he  said, “There were many events that day and we wanted to make sure everyone could go. And February 7 just seemed a bit too early.”  Student Council president Lillie Zablocki said, “We were worried about attendance for the initial February seventh for multiple reasons. First, it was so early people were not expecting the dance because it is usually a spring dance. Second, there are still many activities going on that Friday and Saturday that would yet again interfere with attendance.”

In 2013, TWIRP was on March 1.  The Zablockis explained the conflicts with this year’s Feb. 7 weekend,  including a softball meeting, an archery contest, sectional wrestling, and boys and girls basketball.

Organizers of TWIRM were concerned that with these events, students wouldn’t be able to go if they wanted to get a good night of sleep.  Junior Reid Nichols said, “I will now be able to attend because the original date was the day before sectionals and I wouldn’t have been able to go.” This change is affecting people in different ways, good and bad. Sophomore Nolan Farver said the schedule change doesn’t really affect him, “…but I might have to move my reservations.”

Lillie Zablocki also added that giving the StuCo more time to plan the dance will benefit everyone that attends: “The extra time will allow Student Council to make it a more eventful and exciting week for everyone.  It is definitely our most laid back dance but we will be putting all our effort into making it memorable and fun.”

TWIRP is an informal dance, meaning you don’t have to dress up like you might have for Winter Formal this year. Let’s make this dance the best one this year!
