After a short absence, AHSFuel is back and refueling the student section’s fire.
Recently, Fuel has been doing activities at home basketball games such as duck tosses and giving prizes for various little things. They have plans for even more activities like hoola-hooping contests and other halftime games.
Core members set up meetings when needed and brainstorm ideas for activities, discuss what needs to be improved, and decide who needs to do what for the club. Meetings average two to three students. The group encourages all students to stop by for a meeting. Meetings are tweeted out on https://twitter.com/ahsfuel.
Fuel members try their hardest to make the student section fun and energized. Core member, senior Logan Hemphill said, “We’re getting more attendance, but they’re still not as pumped as they should be.” He noted that he feels the most school spirit is at show choir competitions. Hemphill said, “we just get each other pumped,” and he wants to replicate that energy.
Senior Lexi Allen is the cheerleader contact for Fuel. Allen said the time she’s felt the most school spirit was homecoming 2012, and it can be replicated by getting some “senior leaders cheering and getting the underclassman involved.” Her biggest pet peeve involving spirit is when after the AHSFuel game of the night is done, students sit down and stop cheering.
Head girls basketball coach Casey Pelzer said the student section has a great impact on the players’ performance. “It makes the game a lot more intense. The energy is a lot higher and it’s just a fun atmosphere when a lot of students are there.”
AHSFuel welcomes anyone who wants to become a core member. The group encourages students to express their creativity and share their new ideas for potential activities. Tweet them or email them at [email protected].
