On Mon. Jan. 27, AHS Ag teacher Eric Miller took three students to the State Capitol yesterday to visit the State Legislative. They left around 9 a.m. and got back around 4 p.m. in the afternoon.
They passed time before met with Jack Drake by walking around and learning about all the different paintings and what they meant. They also met other students visiting the Capitol.
Once the time rolled around Drake came out of the session he was in and met the students right outside the door. The students introduced themselves and talked to Drake for awhile until it was time to take pictures in the bowl with him. During their conversations the students found out Drake used to attend Atlantic.
After they left the capitol, they went over to the Historical building where they walked around and learned about the historical events. Governor Terry Branstad and Bill Northey came to talk to the group.
After Northey and Branstad were done talking the students got the chance to take a picture with Northey before we left.
Wyatt Saeugling said, “I had fun, and it was a good experience.” Steven Wright said, “I’m glad we got to go to that, it was pretty good.”
