Senior Dillion Cox holds the trophy after Trojans finish second at the Riverside Tournament Saturday. Cox earned his 100th win at the tournament. Seniors Darrian Schwenke and Tyler Christensen, along with Cox, were champions in their weight classes.

Along with being a champion, Dillion Cox (132) also earned his 100th career win by beating a Papillion La Vista South wrestler by decision in the finals match. After his win Cox said, “I felt like I’ve reached one of my goals for the season.” Cox also said that head coach Tim Duff told him, “Now on to the big prize” and that’s all Duff had said to him.

Dillion Cox will be wrestling at 120 for the remainder of the season. He said, “I want to win state,” said Cox, who has been wrestling  and I’m tired of being the small kid. It was a mutual decision between coach and I.”

Also, Christensen set the new school record with an outstanding pin in the second round. Christensen pinned his Exira-EHK opponent r in six seconds. Christensen said, “He was a beginner, hopefully he sticks out with it and improves.”

Duff commented, “Finishing second as a team with only ten wrestling was a good accomplishment. The highlight was the three individual champions: Darrian, Dillion, and Tyler.  All of the wrestlers are getting better each time out and I love the way the older guys are working to score and pin opponents.”

The next AHS matmen will wrestle next on Thursday, Jan. 30 in a double dual at Lewis Central.
