‘Tis the Season for Adopt-A-Family

Tis+the+Season+for+Adopt-A-Family

By Steph Freund

With the holiday season now in full swing, the sad fact that every year kids go without presents on Christmas is a reality. However, the AHS Student Council along with the student body try to prevent this by partnering with the Adopt-A-Family organization to give needy children a memorable Christmas.

This year the Student Council will be supporting five families for a total of twelve kids.  To raise the funds for these families, Student Douncil will be putting on two fundraisers.  These fundraisers include Loose Change Day and a silent auction for the Trojan Parking spots.

The Loose Change Day will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 11, during third period.  The goal is for each student to bring in as much change as possible. The teacher of the third-period class must count out all of the change before class can begin.  This means the more change given, the more time class is delayed.  All of the change will be put towards the presents Student Council members will purchase for the five families.

The silent auction for the Trojan Parking Spots will be during the week of Dec. 9-13.  These spots will be given to highest bidder.  The winners will be able to park in these spots the entire third quarter.  Student Council will offer the opportunity to bid in the auction before and after school the entire week.  A punishment by the school will be given to anyone who parks in one of the four spots without winning the bid.

Student Council vice president Jen Hohenberger said, “This is a good way to get the high school involved in the community.  I hope everyone can give a little.”

Coach Duff also commented on the Adopt-a-Family project. “It’s a good cause to help out the families in need.  Anytime you can give to community members is beneficial.”

The families are recommended to the Student Council from the Atlantic Headstart program.
