Students and faculty to donate blood on Wednesday

They want your blood! AHS is holding its fall blood drive on Wednesday, Oct. 23. National Honor Society is inviting everyone willing to participate in the Red Cross blood drive. Donation will be held in the AHS gym from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students need to be 16 or older to give. There are weight restrictions as well. Students who don’t meet the required weight for their height, or who don’t have enough iron in their system, will not be able to donate.

Students and teachers may miss a little of some classes because of donating. Librarian Ginger Bechtold said, “I think it’s awesome they’re holding the blood drive, and that they’re continuing the tradition of the blood drive.” Bechtold loves to donate, “out of the spur of the moment” during the summer. If there’s a drive, she’s definitely there to give!

Junior Logan Clausen, on the other hand, won’t be giving. “I don’t like needles; my blood can stay inside of me,” he said.

Ag teacher and FFA adviser Eric Miller said he has tried it and just doesn’t like the way he feels afterwards. Senior Liz Siggins said she’s giving because she thought it was a good thing to do for people.

Give blood. Change a life. Be proud.
