A recent change to the Atlantic High School gymnasium took place this past summer. The old gym floor was replaced with a fresh look after a span of 17 years, being worn down by hundreds of different athletic events and AHS activities. It was decided to replace the gym floor as more wear and tear continued to occur.

The two week process began with sanding the surface of the floor down, then applying a sealer. Once dry, lines were painted along with the trojan head at center court, which was then covered with many coats of wax. New changes to the floor include a darker shade of wood inside the three point line, a lighter shade of wood in the lane, Atlantic’s trojan head mascot at center court, and Atlantic along one end of the baseline and Trojans along the other.

Sophomore Darien Mills said, “I like the floor, we needed a change from the old one. The old gym floor also didn’t have a lot of traction, and was extremely slippery.”

Many other AHS students felt the same way about the old gym floor, and are very enthusiastic about the new change.
