Atlantic Schools Giving Back: “Charity Chains”

Atlantic+Schools+Giving+Back%3A+Charity+Chains

By Laeni Pelzer

This year for homecoming the Student Council decided they wanted to do something to allow our school to give back.  They wanted to make the student body feel like heroes to go along with this years theme of “A Hero’s Homecoming.”  Student Council decided to find charities having to do something with heros or that they saw to be heroic.  They knew they would want to raise money for these charities and wanted to make it a competition within the school. But how could they do this and make it enjoyable? Student Council voted on doing charity chains.

The competition will be between each grade, Washington and Schuler Elementary, along with the Middle school.  The grades and separate schools decided on which charity they wanted to raise money for. The competition is to see which grade can accumulate the longest chain. Throughout the week the chains will be hanging around the commons so all the grades and schools are able to see how they are doing in the competition. The Student Council thought in doing this our school will be able to  give back to those in need while having fun, as well. When asked what her thoughts were on the charity chains for homecoming week Sophomore Meghan Reilly said, “It’s a great way to get students more involved with helping others and being a more positive role in the community.” Junior Reid Nichols replied, “I think it’s a great way to get the school involved in helping out charities.” Senior Josie Anzalone’s comment, “I think it’s pretty cool it’s for a good cause and we will get lots of money.”

The chains will be sold for 50 cents a piece every day during homecoming week before school and at lunch. Any new chains will be added at the end of the day and hung back up in the commons.  The winner will be announced at the Trojan Bowl during the halftime of the football game.
