Do you have a favorite poem that you would love to share with others? Poem In Your Pocket Day is today, April 18. This is a day for you carry your favorite poem around in your pocket and share it. April is National Poetry Month. It has been celebrated in New York City since 2002. It has only been nationwide since 2008.
According to English teacher Allison Berryhill, students and faculty are encouraged to share the poems in their pockets. English teachers at AHS will ask students throughout the day if they have a poem. Those who do will receive a prize.
Another way to share your poem is to tweet with the hashtag #pocketpoem.
Teacher Elizabeth Huggins said Poem in Your Pocket is “a marvelous way to celebrate poetry.” She is carrying the general prologue from the Canterbury Tales.
