Shrine Bowl

By: Travis Small & Hailey Waters

On Friday March 29, Shriner Harry Francis came to the Atlantic High School to meet with Junior Lauren Krogman and Senior  Sam Markham plus their parents, and Football Coach Nick Ross.  The meeting took place in the conference room at the Atlantic High School. Lauren Krogman will cheer for the the team while Sam Markham, elected by Coach Ross, will be playing football.

The Shrine Bowl will take place on Saturday, July 20-27 at the Northern Iowa Dome. The students will stay at the campus. It used to take place at Iowa State, but the NCAA will no longer let them play there. There are 28 all star games in the United States. The money that is raised will go to the shrine hospitals. Each year it takes about 15 million dollars a year to operate these hospitals.

The average money that is raised is 72-100 thousand dollars. To attend the game at the Northern Iowa Dome, you can buy tickets for 10 dollars in advanced. If you don’t purchase tickets ahead of time, they are available for 15 dollars at the door.
