Student band Haze to perform at TWIRP

By Angel Kunik

A local band, Haze, will be playing at the Twirp dance on Friday, March 1. The idea of Haze playing at TWIRP arose when the Student Council considered hiring a live band to perform at the dance. The Student Council then approved the idea of Haze playing at the dance as well as providing DJ service.

Members of Haze include seniors Sam Hayes, JT Baker, Tom Stinn and 2012 graduate Delsin Arnold. Hayes plays lead guitar and does vocals, Baker plays bass guitar, Stinn plays the drum set, and Arnold plays rhythm guitar and does vocals.

The band has played eight other times around the area, including in Lewis, Omaha, Council Bluffs and Atlantic. During the summer, Haze played with Blue Tunes, another band from Atlantic, and opened for them. Haze was also asked to play at the “Thursday in the Park” concert in downtown Atlantic.

Haze has been playing together for almost a year. They started in early 2012 in the middle of March or early April. They have been getting together about once a month since to continue practicing.

“I love the idea of playing for our school system and the students in it,” said band member Sam Hayes. “I’m a little hectic on how the students will react to our band playing because I’m not sure how into that scene they are.”

At TWIRP, they plan to play eight songs, including songs from modern bands such as Creed, Fall Out Boy, Muse and more. Hayes said that this will be a good chance to finally get new fans and more people to support their band at their future performances.

The band will also play some of their original music. Senior Diana Perkins is looking forward to the dance tonight. She said “I think it will be different.”
